Dealing with young people (circle of friends, alcohol and drug problems …)
A clique: Suddenly, you don’t understand your child anymore. Not because you’ve lost track in trendy language and don’t know what “awesome,” “super cool,” or “groovy” mean. But because your child seems different, closed off. Their academic performance is plummeting, they’re skipping classes. Are they being bullied?
Suddenly, they have different friends whom you don’t know. They wear designer clothes and have possessions they can’t afford. Appeals to reason fall on deaf ears, and sharper tones lead to more defiance. Tears, helplessness, arguments with your partner: Who has failed in parenting? Is there alcohol or drug abuse, or even involvement with a cult?
There’s no one-size-fits-all solution for sustainable help. It’s important to understand where the problem lies and whether serious issues with the police and justice system could arise. Sometimes, unorthodox and uncompromising measures seem unavoidable. No one can take the decision away from you, but they can show you the alternatives.
Child Retrieval in Custodial Violations
A partnership falls apart. The former partner disappears. With them, the shared child disappears. Legal custody is ignored. What to do when the child is hidden abroad? Wait until the wheels of international justice start turning? Accept the injustice passively?
The law of action allows no hesitation. But there’s a lack of experience, knowledge of how to conduct sensitive actions like retrieving a child from abroad in the safest and relatively risk-free manner. “Not without my daughter…”, the know-how of dozens of successful cases is now the best equipment. And the special intuition that distinguishes special detectives.
Two extreme cases from North Africa demonstrate how dangerous and ultimately unpredictable such operations can be. Walter Pöchhacker was sentenced to ten years in prison in Egypt and six years in Tunisia after successfully retrieving both mother and daughter for child abduction. Fortunately, he was sentenced in absentia.
